Ever since last week, I haven't been able to stop thinking of albums I used to have in high school that I really really wanted to listen to NOW. So I went nuts at the music store today. I'm really lucky they didn't have 30% of the albums I was looking for, cuz then I would have bought them too. Here's what I left w/ this time:
Pretty On the Inside - Hole
Live Through This - Hole
Celebrity Skin - Hole
The Rocky Horror Picture Show - 3 Soundtrack Box Set
Romeo & Juliet - Movie Soundtrack
Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet
S & M Airlines - NOFX
In my defense, one of the Hole albums was only $0.99, and all the others were used... except for NOFX. In fact, I was a little disappointed with the punk selection at Zia. My theory is that all the little punk kids must come daily and raid the place of all the used Pennywise and Minor Threat CDs, cuz there were hardly any left.

i never understood why you always seemed to like S+M airlines best. Ribbed and White Trash, Two Heebs and a Bean were way better. If you haven't got those two you should jump back in the car and pick them up.
You also need to get blood sugar sex magik. That was hella high school awesomeness.
I also liked NOFX"s "Punk In Drublic," which, incidentally, I didn't get the meaning of the title to until last night when I was laying in bed wondering where "Drublic" was. IDIOT! All this time, I can't believe it didn't get it.
I should definitely get more old RHCP. See how addictive this is once your mind starts thinking back?? That's it, I'm joining BMG for the 12 free CD's.
it = I up there, btw.
Slutkissgirlwontyoupromisehersmack(?)...is she pretty on the inside? Baby, pretty from the back?
Oh, I was so jaded at the age of 16...
Listening to "Teenage Whore" today, I couldn't help but laugh. Damn, that music was harsh. :-)
Ally - I don't like being restricted by the iTunes file format. Ironically, legally purchasing music online restricts you more than buying a CD.
W/ iTunes, it's not a simple universal MP3 format - it's something different that you can only play on an iPod unless you have special software that can convert the files into MP3s.
You can't burn a CD from iTunes and play it on your home stereo. So you can't ever make your friends a copy of a CD and you can't really give music to them unless 1) they have an iPod and 2) they plug their iPod into your computer (mine is a Mac, so it doesn't work if your iPod usually hooks up to a PC).
I find it much easier to buy the CD and rip it once to my music library in MP3 format. That way, I can listen to it on my iPod and burn or email copies to whoever I like.
Plus, it's more cost effective. I get these used CD's for anywhere from $1-$9. iTunes charges either $1 a song or $10-$15 for an album.
Plus the pictures are pretty on the sleeves. And it's fun to hang out at the music store. :-)
oooh, I had the same urges not to long ago. I went to MTheory in San Diego and got a Bad Religion "Agaist the Grain". I got some other stuff that I can't remember right now.
But a big ditto on album art and hanging out at record stores. It's always a good energy there.
What are you talking about? I get albums on iTunes, then burn a CD. Then I can rip the CD to MP3. No big whoop. I can totally burn CDs that play on home stereos or cars etc.
Heck if there are any songs I have you want, let me know.
Hmmm... we'll have to discuss your CD collection sometime. And I'll have to try and burn a CD to test your iTunes theory. Brian says "Iie, dewa arimasen" though. (That's "no, it is not" in Japanese).
I am so in that teenage music thing right now, but I must be way older than you! Currently re-obsessed with The Clash, The Specials, The English Beat, The Jam, and The Style Council. Yes, I was/am a little into british 70s/80s music. Poor readers of my blog have to hear about it all too often.
