I lost 1.4 pounds this week. That brings my total weight loss so far to 16 pounds. (I think I was off by a little bit before.) I've been super-motivated lately because I got a personal trainer and I got a BodyBugg.
I really like my BodyBugg. I use it with an online program where I track what I eat. It makes it so that, at the end of every day, I know how many calories I've burned. So if my goal is to lose one pound a week, I need to make sure I burn at least 500 calories a day.
After using it for a week, I'd say it's pretty accurate. It said I burned 5,291 calories more than I ate this week. That equals 1.5 pounds. So, assuming my muscles aren't retaining water and that my clothes weigh about the same as they did last week, it's pretty darn accurate. It's also fun to see how many calories I burn doing different activities... such as washing dishes, walking to my car, working out, etc. (Use your imagination.)
I also chopped most of my hair off this week. It's the shortest it's ever been. It's kind of a Jackie-O style cut. Very professional. The most grown-up cut I've ever had. People seem to like it though. They say I look like some kind of movie star from the 40's.
And I got rid of my acrylic pink and white nails. I cut the natural ones short and painted them a dark, vampy black-burgundy. Very fun.
And since I've given up caffeine in the last week, I've been going to bed earlier and sleeping a lot better.
I think the weight loss encouraged all of this. It's more gratifying than I ever imagined. It's not about being skinny. It's about investing time and energy and effort into taking care of yourself. It's about taking an active role in your own life, instead if just sitting back and letting life happen to you. I know it sounds corny, but it's really a cool process.
