The other day, I was walking out of the front lobby of my office, and this guy is standing right in front of the exit doors, staring at me. As I get close to him/the exit, he says to me: "Keshia?"
I was like, "No, sorry," and just kept going. But it kinda perplexed me. Isn't Keshia usually a black girl name? Do I really look like a Keshia? Then I felt bad. Was this guy just, like, totally progressive and I'm this stereotyping bigot for thinking it was a silly question?

"Keshia" is like calling someone a "betty" or a "barney", but "Keshia" means filthy, bigotted whore. I'm sure what he was saying was "Keshia!", not "Keshia?"...you know more of an observation, not a question. If anything, the fellow has a keen eye for detail.
i have never known anyone named keshia that wasn't black....so no....not racist...
now had he called you laquieta and you said that was a black girls name, i would call you a racist :)
(both are black girl names if you didn't catch my sarcasm....)
That ain't racist in my book. Just because something is associated with a group of people, doesn't mean it's racist. Stereotypical? Yeah. But it's not like you think you're better than black people or people named Keisha deserve lesser treatment b/c you think "Keisha" is a "black name."
Had you said to the guy "Do I look black?" that might have been a bit racist. It's a bit like the time someone saw me and yelled "Yanulexis Dayumi Lopez?" and I said "Do I look Cuban?" Since I was carrying matches and gasoline, it wasn't racist at all. See?
Shannon - Just got another threats case today with someone threatening to set someone else on fire. It's a Latino last name. I'll put my money on the guy being Cuban.
HK - You are so feakin' evil. What did I ever do to deserve a friend like you? Speaking of evil... I got your New Year's card. The demon spawn look adorable. Oh, and nice envelope.
What does racist mean?
Rot in hell, racist!
Don't make me have my boss call you again.
